AI Wearables 👗

AI wearables are smart devices integrated with AI, designed to be worn like eyeglasses👓, brooches🦋, pendants, watches⌚️, or belts , to assist with various tasks. These devices aim to make our lives more convenient and efficient by seamlessly integrating technology into our daily routines.

Hands Free + Voice Control + AI = eliminate the need to take the phone out

Let's explore how far these smart devices CAN or CANNOT (?)🤔 enhance our convenience !

your hands-free🖐🏼smart assistant😎

The idea of AI-powered devices has been around for decades. However, it's only recently that we've seen these concepts manifest into tangible devices like phones iOS18📱 , eyeglasses, watches, and other hands-free wearables.

Despite their potential, these technologies are still in their infancy due to certain limitations.

Let's first take a look at the types of AI wearables available today 📱👓⌚

  1. Rabbit🐰 - new orders ship in June 2024

Rabbit R1 is designed to assist users with various tasks and queries using AI. Users can interact with the Rabbit R1 through voice commands or the touchscreen interface, allowing them to ask any questions, set reminders, control smart home devices, and access information on-the-go, and more…

  1. Humane AI Pin📌 - Join Waitlist

The Humane Ai Pin is a wearable device that features voice control, laser ink display and AI enhanced personal assistance. Users can activate the device by tapping it. Once activated, users can interact with it using voice commands enabling them to describe the environment , take photos & videos, translate, play music, set reminders, send messages, and access information on-the-go and more…

  1. Ray Ban Meta Smart EyeGlasses 😎 - Available Online & In Store

The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, a collaboration between Ray-Ban and Meta, blend Ray-Ban frames with wearable technology. Accuracy & Usability Issues🤨

While these gadgets promise cutting-edge features and seamless integration into our daily lives, they still face significant hurdles🌪 !

Inconsistent Performance - For Rabbit and Humane AI Pin, some tasks are handled well, while others result in inaccurate or confusing responses. 🤖 They often misidentify things, giving incorrect names for iconic locations, pets, dishes etc… Sometimes, it takes a long time to provide an answer, and translations can be off. 🌐 Occasionally, they respond with "I CANNOT" to requests they should be able to handle. In conclusion, the performance is very inconsistent, and the companies are actively updating the software to address these issues. 🔄

Impracticality - Humane AI Pin’s laser-projected hand display was criticized for being difficult to read outdoor. Also, In order for these gadgets to identify an object, users have to point directly at the object, such as a flower🌹, for information to be retrieved.

Let’s imagine all these self-talk with AI gadgets :

YOU ask

AI GADGETS reply

What is this ?

This is a rose, it is either a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae, or the flower it bears.

What is that ?

It is the Golden Gate Bridge. It is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Who is he ?

I Cannot Identify 😂

Honestly, who would ask these questions all day long to identify objects in front of you ?🤷‍♀️

Price - Given all these problems clearly it’s not quite worth the price💸 . Humane AI Pin is priced at $699 + $24 subscription, Rabbit R1 $199 and Ray Ban Meta EyeGlasses $299🤑

Privacy & Security - As always, privacy & security should be our first priority ! These devices collect extensive personal data, including photos, videos, and location, which can be vulnerable to breaches and unauthorized access. Users must be informed about data usage, have control over their information, and ensure the devices comply with data protection regulations.

Accessibility♿️

Despite all the shortcomings and issues to be solved, we see a lot of potential in the area of accessibility. 💡🌟

💡Identifying Objects - Common people may not have the necessity to ask for information about objects in front of them, but those who are visually impaired might. Imagine someone with limited eyesight entering a store, picking up a product, and asking Ray-Ban, “What is this?” 👓 The smart glasses capture and identify the product, as well as read the words on the packaging, such as instructions or ingredients. 🛒📦 All AI gadgets mentioned above are already capable of doing this only that they are inconsistent and slow at times.

📍Navigation - Like in any car, these AI gadgets should be able to help the visually impaired navigate through streets by describing them the surrounding, where to turn, and when to stop. 👓🛤️ AI gadgets don’t have this function yet; the only challenge could be the battery life. 🔋

Imagine Ray Ban eyeglasses navigating her through streets

☎️ Emergency Call by Voice Command - These AI wearables can offer tailored support and assistance to those physically disabled, whether on the street or alone at home, allowing them to make emergency calls by Voice Command, empowering them to lead more independent, connected, and healthier lives. 🌟
