⚠️2024 Cyber Threats

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) brings not only advancements but also significant challenges in cybersecurity. As we become more reliant on digital technologies, understanding the evolving nature of cyber risks is crucial.

Realities of Cyber Threats we all should be Aware of

What is CyberAttack ?

Cyberattacks target various levels, from individuals👤to corporations👨🏽‍💼and governments🏛, each with distinct motives, targets, and impacts. At the individual level, the focus is often on stealing personal data and financial information or gaining unauthorized system access 🛡️. At the corporate and government levels, the stakes are higher, involving large sums of money, along with efforts to spread misinformation and manipulate data 🏢🌐.

Video below highlights the need for improved cybersecurity measures and defenses on all levels, to keep pace with the evolving AI-driven threat landscape in this new era.

Let’s explore how cyber risks are becoming more dangerous and widespread. 🌐🔍

🤖Accessibility of AI Tools

Deep Fake Photos & Videos

In our previous episode on "How to Fact Check," we explored how AI tools can generate seemingly authentic photos of attractive men and women at a minimal cost. AI enables hackers to generate endless fake profiles and personas to lure you into clicking on malicious links.🧑🏼‍💻💔

Fake Online Shop & Products

Deceptive online shops can mimic reputable brands, luring you into unsafe purchases with your credit card. This exposes your personal and financial details, risking both your money and identity. 🛍️💳

Fake Family Member, Friends, Colleagues

Hackers can now create realistic videos and voices of someone you know, like an overseas relative 👩🏻‍🦰 , using AI. They might call you with a video, using real-time face filters to overlay another person's face onto theirs, making it look and sound like the person you know. They could use this deceptive 🎭 method to convince you to wire money or get your personal information.

Fake Celebrities

Here is an example of deepfake videos of celebrities 💃🏽 “you think you know” endorsing products💄and asking you to click to fill in your personal information & credit card.

Fake Boss

Below is an example which happened in a corporate. This is a case of fraud involving a 🎭 deepfake video of a company's CFO. An employee was tricked into sending $25 million😱 to a fraudster's account after receiving a video call of who they believed was the CFO instructing them to do so.

Always be vigilant and double-check the legitimacy of anything you see on the screen, especially when you are compelled to click on any link, to wire money, or to fall in love !!!

Question them :

  • Photos 🖼️: Whether they depict people, products, landscapes, or disasters, ask if they are real ?

  • Videos 📹: Even those that appear in real-time and look just like someone you know.

  • Voices 🗣️: Be cautious even if the voice sounds exactly like someone familiar.

  • Profiles 👤: Particularly on dating or job search apps, where fakes are common.

  • Comments 💬: Be wary of fake comments under posts, articles or videos that may be written by bots. These often appear generic, overly promotional such as “Good Job!”, ”Great!”, ”Nice!”, ”Love it !” or just bunch of Emoji 💯❤️❤️❤️

  • Websites 🌐: AI can quickly create fake sites that look legitimate, and trick you into providing personal info and money.

  • News 📰: Stay alert to fake news even it includes realistic photos and videos.

Always double-check these elements before interacting or sharing information to protect yourself from potential scams.

 🎯Targeting Vulnerabilities

AI can analyze vast amounts of data to identify potential vulnerabilities in software and human behaviors. 🎯🔓

CCTV Camera Leak

AI can exploit security weaknesses, potentially leading to unauthorized access and leaks of private CCTV footage 🚨. To enhance security, use only highly-rated cameras, change passwords regularly, and avoid placing cameras in private areas of your home 🏠. Additionally, always verify which cloud service is storing your footage and ensure it's secure 🔒.

Password Leak

AI can be employed to crack passwords by rapidly guessing combinations based on gathered data from previous breaches.

Regularly update your password 🔢 , avoid using the same password across different platforms, choose complex passwords, and enable two-factor authentication to prevent potential security breaches! 🔐💻

Password manager and PassKey are also highly recommended in which we will cover in our next episode so stay tuned !

🚀Automation of Attack

AI technology has enabled cybercriminals to automate attacks. This means they can launch widespread scams without the need for constant human oversight.

Imagine cyberattacks being fully automated: generating attack concepts, crafting fake images and texts, distributing deceptive posts across multiple platforms, and even commenting on these posts—all with minimal human effort!

This level of automation enables attacks to occur at a scale and speed previously unmanageable. 🤖🌐💨

Given the rise of ever more sophisticated cyberattacks, it's critical for everyone to heighten their awareness and bolster their defenses 🛡️. Staying updated on security practices, recognizing phishing, and using reliable security tools can help protect personal information from these evolving threats 🚨.
